You hear a lot about hustle culture these days. Usually from guys in their twenties with no kids, no mortgage, and nothing to lose.
They’ll tell you to grind harder, sleep less, and want it more. That’s fine if you’re 24, single, and fueled by energy drinks. But for those of us in our 50s, that approach just doesn’t work anymore.

There’s an old story about two bulls sitting on a hill. The younger one looks down at a herd of cows in the valley and says, “Hey, let’s run down and mate with one of those cows!”
The older bull nods and replies, “I’ve got a better idea. Let’s walk down and have them all.”
That’s how I’ve come to think about building a home business.
I’m not interested in chasing every new shiny tactic or burning myself out to prove I’ve still got it. I want to build something sustainable. Something that grows. Something that gives me time for the things that matter: family, friends, freedom, and fun.
And that’s where leverage comes in.
The Big Shift — From Activity to Assets
I used to think staying busy meant I was being productive.
If I was posting, tweaking funnels, checking emails—I must be making progress, right?
Not really. Activity keeps you busy. Assets keep working when you’re not.
A blog post that ranks. A YouTube video that pulls in leads while you sleep. An autoresponder that follows up without you lifting a finger.
That’s leverage.
The real breakthrough came when I stopped asking, “What can I get done today?” and started asking, “What can I build today that keeps working tomorrow?”
It’s like the difference between picking berries and planting fruit trees.
What Leverage Looks Like in Real Life
In a home business, leverage doesn’t have to be high-tech. It’s not about automation tools or complex funnels. It’s about simple systems and repeatable actions that pull you out of the daily grind.
- Videos: I record once, post to YouTube or TikTok, and let them bring in leads for months.
- Email Autoresponders: I write a sequence once and it follows up with subscribers forever.
- Funnels: Drag-and-drop pages that guide people through my offers without me being there live.
- AI Tools: I use ChatGPT to rough-draft content and Canva AI to create graphics in minutes.
- Team Building: In network marketing, I use shared training systems to help others succeed—so I’m not hand-holding every new rep.
Each of these is a form of leverage. Build it once. Use it many times. That’s the game.
How to Start Building Leverage Now
You don’t need to spend money or hire a team. Just start smart.
1. Systemize one repeatable task.
Are you answering the same questions in DMs? Make a video. Writing the same replies? Create a template.
2. Use tools that buy your time back.
Try Canva AI. Use ChatGPT. Don’t do everything from scratch.
3. Create once. Use often.
Turn a video into a blog. A blog into an email. An email into social posts.
4. Stop chasing perfect.
Launch it. Refine it later. The goal is momentum, not perfection.
Final Thought: Don’t Wait for Burnout
I’ve worked hard my whole life. And I still believe in hard work. But I’ve also hit the wall—more than once.
Most guys wait too long to make a change. They wait until they’re burned out, broke, or watching their life pass them by while they try to “grind it out.”
Don’t wait.
Start building leverage now. Build it before you need it.

Because this business you’re building? It’s not about proving yourself. It’s about buying your life back
