MLM is Not a Numbers GameThere is a common theme in Network Marketing training which states, “MLM success is a numbers game”. While there is an element of truth to this attitude, it can be a dangerous mindset.
Here’s the thing.
One of the attractions of network marketing is the relationship between and among the company, the upline and the representative/ IBO (Independent Business Owner).
In network marketing, there is a bonding and camaraderie that are usually missing in corporate land. Part of why people want to escape corporate land is that they often are treated like just a number.
A cog.
A component to be used and replaced when it is worn out.
Why on earth would you want to have even the slightest hint of that in your approach to network marketing?

People aren’t numbers.

The numbers game mentality also lets people think that it doesn’t matter how skilled or unskilled they are at networking, if they just talk to enough people, they’ll succeed.
Think about that for a moment.
If I came up to you and said,
“Hi there! You look like a sharp individual who keeps his options open and is looking for a way to escape the rat race! You should chuck your dead-end job and become a distributor for Wonder Juice! This stuff cures cancer and canine diabetes. It’ll make you lose weight and grow hair. Sign up now and you’ll be rich by Thursday!”
Would you be intrigued to know more or would you be backing away slowly, hoping I didn’t make any sudden moves?
So would everyone else.
I could talk to lots and lots and LOTS of people like that and never sponsor a soul.
Even if I were talking to my best friend of 15 years, an approach like that not only wouldn’t be successful, it probably would get me off the invitation list for football games and barbecues, too.
Numbers don’t matter unless you care about the people you are engaging with. Numbers don’t matter if you don’t have skill behind them.

Learn the skills.

There are a ton of places you can learn the skills of network marketing. And the cool thing is that they are not that difficult to learn.
You can learn a bunch from Eric Worre’s book, GO PRO. He also posts a ton of content on his site NetworkMarketingPro.com.
Another favorite is a guy who has been doing this for decades and that is  Tom “Big Al” Schreiter.
Finally, if you are looking to learn how to leverage the internet and social media to generate leads and people with whom to share your business, you can’t go wrong with MLSP. MLSP has a massive amount of training on how to leverage Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, blogging and a whole host of other strategies and tactics to help you generate leads for your business.
So please, don’t treat your prospects like a number.
They’re people, just like you, with hopes and dreams and fears.
Engage with them. Find out what they want out of life. Find out how you can help them get it.
Your business will grow, your influence will grow and you’ll still be welcome to your friends’ barbecues.
If you’d like more ideas on how you can build your tribe, I have a great newsletter that I think will help you out. Just enter your information in the form below and I’ll make sure you get it.
